The Frog is a symbol of innocence, stability and communication. It is known as a speaker, copper maker, and a bringer of wealth. It is recognizable by its large eyes, wide mouth and benevolent expression.

Patrick Amos, born in 1957, is from the Mowachaht Nation of the Nuu-chah-Nulth people. He was born in Friendly Cove on Nootka Island, near the West Coast of Vancouver Island. He attended school on Meares Island before moving to Victoria, where he came into contact with other Native artists. Amos has been designing limited edition prints since 1976, and carving since 1979 when he began an apprenticeship with Tony Hunt Sr. He has also worked closely with Art Thompson and Tim Paul. Amos is active in his home community of Port Alberni where he gives carving demonstrations at local schools, and in Ucluelet, where he teaches an art class at the Du-quaht Art School.
